If you didn’t get the chance to dip into English country-soul musician Yola’s debut album Walk Through Fire, then you missed a treat. The Bristol born singer now announces details of her upcoming second album Stand For Myself and debuts its first single Diamond Studded Shoes.
Although the production is peppy and has a soulful sing-a-long quality, Diamond Studded Shoes provides a statement on current social constructs, with Yola noting: “This song explores the false divides created to distract us from those few who are in charge of the majority of the world’s wealth and use the ‘divide and conquer’ tactic to keep it. This song calls on us to unite and turn our focus to those with a stranglehold on humanity.” The focus on unification allows the track to showcase a sense of optimism and hope channelled in Yola’ stunning vocal tones.
Yola works alongside producer Dan Auerbach on the album, which can be pre-ordered here ahead of its July 30th release. The singer will be seen in Baz Luhrman’s upcoming Elvis biopic. Yola will also be launching a full US tour, details of which can be found on her website.
