Will Young Readies ‘Crying on the Bathroom Floor’ Album With Release of Title Track

Will Young has already revealed his covers of Daniel and Elizabeth Taylor for his August 6th scheduled Crying on the Bathroom Floor album, but now gives us another slice of the tribute album. The title track, originally by US band Muna, and a favourite of pop aficionados gets Will’s unique spin.

Will accompanied the Richard X produced pop gem with the following comment on his Instagram: “Well who hasn’t cried on the bathroom floor?!  I certainly have. The moment I heard this incredible song by @whereismuna I immediately knew what I wanted to do with the arrangement.  Richard X and I worked to give the track more of a pop sensibility while keeping the emotional resonance of the brilliant original.  The lyric is just so unique and I found the line ‘crying on the bathroom floor, tearing off the dress I wore’ so interesting for a man to sing.  What’s nice now is that times are different and no one even questions it, but it still makes it interesting for me as a man who does wear dresses sometimes and has cried on the bathroom floor. Never have the two met before – but who knows what’s to come!”

On crafting the album, Will notes: “After 18 years of recording and performing a lot of original material, I loved the idea of creating an album that celebrates some of the modern female artists I so admire in pop. In today’s times it’s so much easier and accepted to occupy other genders, ideas and explore new avenues.” Check out the full tracklist below:
