Dita Von Teese teams-up with Daddy Squad (a new artistic project from former Monarchy star Andrew Armstrong) to release new Italo-Disco influenced gem My Magic Number. The woozy camp anthem has echoes of classic Amanda Lear and Grace Jones disco hits as Dita chants against sharp synths and nostalgic electronic production.
Andrew shares “It started as an instrumental, but straight away I could hear Dita’s voice on it, doing spoken word. I imagined it a mix of Grace Jones and Miss Kitten. The words and imagery just fell out. It’s surrealistic and colourful. Dita’s voice has the perfect purr for that. We organised a session in LA for her to record the vocals, while I sat in remotely on the session. It came together amazingly easily.”
Dita is no stranger to the music world with her own self-titled album released last 2018 in partnership with Sébastien Tellier. She has previously worked with Andrew during his time in Monarchy in the video for Black Widow and on tracks Disintegration and Boys & Girls. Hopefully a new studio album from Dita will be on the horizon for the future.
Since Monarchy disbanded, Andrew is firing full steam ahead with Daddy Squad with collaborations featuring Tom Aspaul, Jake Shears and Corrine from France on the horizon.
