KEiiNO never disappoint and they bring the queer schlager camp by the bucketload in their latest single End of Time (Taste of Heaven). The track is packed with LGBTQ+ centric imagery, euphoric electronic production, and a raunchy sense of camp. The track is co-written by the pop trio’s Tom Hugo, Alexandra Rotan and Fred Buljo alongside Rüdiger Schramm – with the latter and Tom also producing.
“Do you want to dance in heaven / Count your sins and pray for seven / All the queers go straight to heaven / Please dear God just show me heaven…” Alexandra sings against bouncing production. End of Time (Taste of Heaven) has echoes of Marina and the Diamonds in its theatrical emotion and Alexandra Rotan’s impressive lead vocal but this is unmistakably a contemporary KEiiNO anthem. The imagery conjured up in the track makes it an immediate schlager classic from ‘Boys in PVC’ to ‘Girls in leather pants letting go.’
The official visualiser for the project mirrors this sense of camp, conjuring up spooky queer imagery centring somewhere between Alice in Wonderland and The Blair Witch Project with a little arthouse madness thrown in.
