Mark your calendars for January 14th 2022 as Scream returns. The original trio of stars Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courtney Cox return for the fifth cinematic entry into the Scream saga with filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett at the helm.
The official synopsis keeps things suitably vague, sharing: “Twenty-five years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, a new killer has donned the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town’s deadly past.”
The most recent Scream film, Scream 4 arrived in 2011 with original writer Kevin Williamson and original director Wes Craven steering the ship. Whilst rumours circulated about a Craven-helmed follow up, ultimately a television series followed instead surviving for three seasons during which we sadly saw the passing of Wes Craven.
With the fifth film hopefully the Scream saga will be getting back on track. As well as the returning original trio, new stars in the form of Melissa Barrera, Kyle Gallner, Mason Gooding, Mikey Madison, Dylan Minnette, Jenna Ortega, Jack Quaid, Marley Shelton, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Sonia Ammar will be joining the inevitably gore-soaked party.
Scream is in theatres January 14, 2022.
