Austin Mahone dipped into the world of country music on 2023 album A Lone Star Story with impressive results. Now the musician continues to work adjacent to the genre on latest track Sooner or Later. Produced by BSAMZ and written by Austin, Brandon Sammons and Christian Stalnecker.
Whilst Sooner or Later certainly feels like a continuation of Austin’s contemporary country sound, there is a real sense of many of the musician’s artistic influences trickling throughout the number from pop to R&B. Regardless of genre, the song is unmistakably Austin continuing to showcase his musical evolution.
Austin emotes throughout the number, singing: “Sooner or later, truth finds a way to always come back around / You’re gonna hate it when your heart’s breakin’ / And your world comes crashin’ down…” with lyrics reflecting someone coming to terms with a failed relationship, realizing they were blinded by love and didn’t see the truth until it was too late.
