Bebe Zahara Benet follows up her joyous Kisses and Feathers EP and standalone single Jungle Kitty, with new track Banjo. The RuPaul’s Drag Race OG winner and All Stars finalist continues to reflect her heritage and glamour in the newly released track.
Banjo is filled with African drums, percussion and choir backing vocals, tapping into the influences that made Bebe’s Cameroon such a delight. Praise should go to Bebe for staying true to her roots and reflecting that in her music. The singer fires out lines like “Pulls my strings like a banjo/said he wants to hold on tight like a handle” showcasing the track’s infectious lyrics.
Banjo features on upcoming EP Broken English which is due April 24th. Hopefully the full EP will serve as the love letter to the colour and ferocity of upbeat African music.
