Sundance always do a fantastic job at assembling some of the most exciting up and coming horrors of the year as part of their Park City at Midnight strand and Relic is one of these. Snapped up by IFC Midnight, the feature from Natalie Erika James stars Emily Mortimer, Robyn Nevin & Bella Heathcote. Check out the full synopsis:
“RELIC tells the story of Edna (Robyn Nevin), an elderly and widowed matriarch who goes missing, and her daughter Kay (Emily Mortimer) and granddaughter Sam (Bella Heathcote) who must travel to their remote family home to find her. Soon after her return, they start to discover a sinister presence haunting the house and taking control of Edna.“
Relic looks like a feast for the sense as seen in its creaking aesthetics showcased in the trailer. With comparisons to Hereditary and The Babadook, Relic looks set to be a thematically challenging and visually unsettling watch from rising talent Natalie Erika James.
Relic is ambitiously aiming to open in US theatres and arrive on VOD July 10.
