2014 has been a slow and forgettable year for horror so far* – with the only real stand-outs being the passable (and we use that term loosely) Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones and Hammer Film’s chilling The Quiet Ones. Hoping to join these stand-outs is upcoming horror As Above, So Below.
Directed by Quarantine’s John Erick Dowdle, this chiller takes us below the streets of Paris as a group of archaeologists search for lost treasure in the city’s labyrinthine catacombs.
We hope that As Above, So Below isn’t resting on the novelty value of its creepy Parisian setting and there will be some genuine scares and well-executed tension to keep us on-board.
As Above, So Below hits UK and USA cinemas on August 15 with European dates to follow in September.
* We should add that the highly anticipated Stage Fright hasn’t yet reached us in the UK – and we’ve still to check out the much-lauded Borderlands. Plus there is The Town That Dreaded Sundown, Rosemary’s Baby, and Deliver Us From Evil to come – so who knows, there might be some excellent surprises.
