We reviewed Orlando Bloom piece Retaliation back in 2017 at the Edinburgh International Film Festival – with the project since being picked up for US distribution. Originally debuting as Romans – in reference to the biblical book – the project from Ludwig and Paul Shammasian tackles some massively hard hitting concepts. Check out the synopsis below:
“Orlando Bloom stars as Malky, a demolition worker whose life receives a seismic shock when, out drinking with friends at a local pub, he sees a disturbing figure from his past: the man he holds responsible for a traumatic childhood incident. Fueled by anger, Malky sets out on a path of vengeance – and discovers that no one can escape the consequences of their sins in this taut thriller.“
We had high praise for the film back in 2017: The beating heart of Romans is a sublime leading performance from Orlando Bloom. This is a performance that respectfully captures the subtle pain, shame and hurt that plagues victims. Bloom is at his most raw and transformative here in a performance that simmers with tension throughout the film’s runtime. Like Bloom’s performance, The Shammasians direct with a taut sense of tension and unease ensuring that Romans is a film that commands your full attention.
RETALIATION will be released on VOD & Digital July 24.
