Country starlet Cam’s upcoming sophomore album has been a massively anticipated release for us ever since she dropped contemporary classic Diane back in 2017. With several singles since the track, Cam has finally announced that second album The Otherside will be arriving October 30th.
With the announcement of the album’s release also comes new single Classic. The track written by Cam and Jack Antonoff – and also produced by the latter – is an up-tempo triumph that sees Cam find a classic joy in a new love. The track press release notes:
“Classic” is about a relationship that transcends time and outlasts trends. “Ain’t nothin new I’m waitin for,” Cam sings, “cause they don’t make em like this anymore.” Full of warm and familiar references “like a bench in the front seat / Like a big yellow taxi / Like your best friend’s mixtape / A big limo and a prom date” to remind us how fun true love can be.
Antonoff is hot off the tails of producing numerous tracks on the new The Chicks’ record Gaslighter which drops today. Classic is a clear sign that he has managed to work the same magic with Cam. On the partnership, Cam states:
“Jack and I caught something in the air that day and ran with it. The track is so much fun. Jangling guitars, claps, it feels like when a group of familiar people get back together over the holidays, clanking around after dinner with too much wine, and amidst the chatter and laughter and closeness they are really telling each other, deep down, just how much they love each other.”
Classic will be joined by Diane, Redwood Tree and Till There’s Nothing Left on upcoming album, The Otherside. The remaining tracks have not been announced yet, however, you can view the cover art below.
