Exploitation cinema has continued to trickle along semi-successfully in recent years despite feeling like we’re somewhat at the quieter end of its Grindhouse-spurred revival. A handful of pictures paying homage to the grisly low-budget exploitation flicks of the past still make it out e.g. Terrifier, The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then the Bigfoot, VFW, and Iron Sky: The Coming Race being a few high profile entries. However, one that has truly grabbed our attention is upcoming ‘Swissploitation’ horror-comedy Mad Heidi.
We’ve had blackspoitation, hagsploitation, Mexploitation, and Nazsploitation, but Swissploitation is a word we never saw ourselves writing. From the team that brought the cult Iron Sky films to screens, Mad Heidi looks set to lampoon Swiss stereotypes in a high camp exploitation-horror fashion. Check out the official synopsis below:
“The Heidi story moved the hearts of whole generations around the world. But meanwhile Heidi has grown up, just like us. She ain’t no sweet little kid anymore. In the near future the world is sinking into war and chaos, but Switzerland has sealed itself off as an island of the rich. A despotic cheese magnate is ruling the country with an iron fist to maintain an artificial postcard-image of Switzerland. When Heidi is abducted by brutal government troops, she must defend herself and fight her war against the cheese-fueled machinery of hate. They will soon realize they just fucked with the wrong Heidi!”
The project is still in varying stages of crowdfunding and we are keen to spread the word. There are numerous perks available for those wishing to support Mad Heidi and keep creative, exciting exploitation cinema alive.
Mad Heidi is directed by Johannes Hartmann and produced by Tero Kaukomaa and Valentin Greutert.
Keep an eye on the film’s website for updates on the production.
