Justin Simien (Dear White People) directs an all star black cast in the upcoming horror BAD HAIR. The project could potentially be the first and only haunted hair horror (please correct us if we are wrong there) – transporting us to the scariest hair decade, the eighties. Yet, the trailer for BAD HAIR is not the camp eighties-throwback that some might be expecting – instead it seems to follow the mould of Jordan Peele’s complex and progressive recent horrors.
The official plot synopsis notes: “In 1989 an ambitious young woman gets a weave in order to succeed in the image-obsessed world of music television. However, her flourishing career may come at a great cost when she realises that her new hair may have a mind of its own.”
The trailer for the project boasts bold horror aesthetics, as well as capturing a truly unsettling, frantic tone – perfect for the genre. Writer-director Justin Simien assembles an all star cast including: Elle Lorraine, Jay Pharoah, Usher, Kelly Rowland, Laverne Cox, Lena Waithe, Chante Adams, Blair Underwood, James Van Der Beek, and Queen Vanessa Williams.
BAD HAIR debuts on Hulu October 23rd.
