Joe Parsons caught us off-guard with his stunning debut single Pilot, which we adored for its intelligent, emotive electronic melodies and hymn like vocals. Joe impresses further with his sophomore single, Repair, a similarly personal, heartfelt track.
Joe notes: “This is another personal tale about depression, masculinity and locking all of my negative emotions away in my mind like a brilliant legend.” Like Joe’s previous single Pilot, the spirit song has a particular resonance with the queer community and the insecurity and doubt that often comes with the gay experience. Joe adds: “Eventually all of that negativity spread across all of my little mind like a tidal wave of shit. It wasn’t entirely helpful. This lead to some less smiley moments. So I suppose, this little song is about taking those little fragments of your shattered brain and putting them back together again.”
With brooding electronic production, Joe’s vocals guide across the minimalistic yet building backing soundscape with a dream-like quality. Joe’s voice has a choral like power, delivering its themes with an unforced, delicate poignancy which helps assert him as one of the most exciting queer musicians at the moment.
We cannot wait to hear Joe’s album as Pilot and Repair are undeniably some of the most sonically interesting tracks of the year. The album is scheduled to drop on October 13th 2020 is set to make some intriguing links to concepts such as homosexuality and vulnerability.
