Preview: Country Strong

The fallen country star picture did well at least years Academy Awards for Jeff Bridges and the Crazy Heart team. Here we see a similar idea in Shana Feste’s Country Strong. Gywenth Paltrow stars as country music star Kelly Canter (fresh from rehab) attempting to resurect her career with the help from her husband and manager, played by US Country sensation, Tim McGraw. Add a hot young support act in the form of Leighton Meester and a rising singer/songwriter/new love interest, played by newcomer Garett Hedlund, and I think you’ve got what looks like a pretty decent flick.

Paltrow’s not really done anything overly exciting since 2001’s The Royal Tenenbaums (maybe excluding Running With Scissors) so it’ll be interesting to see how this pans out for her. Also if this gives us a soundtrack of the same calibre of Crazy Heart then I’ll be over the moon. Paltrow’s voice is pretty impressive, as I’m sure many of you will know – unless you’ve been hiding under a rock from all this Glee nonsense. 


Country Strong is already in US cinemas and will be playing in UK cinemas from 25th March 2011.
