Marc Almond and Dave Ball’s long-teased new Soft Cell album Happiness Not Included was scheduled for release today, but has sadly been delayed until May 6th 2022. To help tide us over the extra few months wait, the electronic duo release the album’s title track – penned by Marc, Dave, Riccardo Hugh, and Michael Mulhall.
The band shared: “Due to ongoing production delays beyond our control, the brand new #SoftCell album *Happiness not included will now be released worldwide on 6th May,” adding “This delay has also enabled us to add some very special new elements to the album, which we can’t wait to share!” What these special elements are, is anyone’s guess, but we are nonetheless excited to find out.
The title track centres on the album’s general theme of the dire state of the world. Something gaining an eerie further resonance due to the terrible events unfolding in Ukraine at the moment. With lines including “Hand gel won’t sanitize your sins”, “Troopers stealing control, even sharpening our knives” and “Our social media makes us slaves” suggesting the bleak times we are living in.
