Sharon Needles floored us with the first taste of her new LP, Absolute Zero and its title track, a moody disco number. Sharon turns her sights to something more euphoric with Flamin’ Hot – a camp Hi-NRG disco stomper penned by Sharon, Ashley Gordon, Paul Coultrup and Tomas Costanza – the latter who also contributes the scintillating electronic production.
Sharon’s latest album Absolute Zero is due for a July 22nd release through PEG Records/Warner Music Group/ADA. The LP is due to feature Flamin’ Hot and Absolute Zero, signalling the album is set to have a high octane Europop/Eurodisco flavoured sound. On the new cut, Sharon showcases her impressive vocals against Costanza’s bouncing production and a joyous backing chorus which completes the disco sound. The lyrics pack a joyous sense of sexy camp with lines such as “I feel the temperature rising / I feel your body beside me / It’s freaky and I like it…” and “Ain’t goin’ up, we’re headed down / Yeah, it’s gettin’ hot in here / Fall for me, baby, pretty please / Oh, fire walk with me…”
Sharon draws inspiration from surprising snack for the new release, as she notes: “Some say disco is dead. Researching disco, I have found that some of my favorite rock n roll bands had a hand in this disturbing funeral of my favorite soul, funk, disco, and R n B bands. “Flamin’ Hot” was written because I was hung over, and I saw my musicians eating flaming hot Cheetos. I hate food but I love music. I’m famously known for saying unsavory things, but I want to be more famous for making disco songs about savory snacks. Though many people may find a resemblance to Madonna’s Hung Up, it’s really based off of French icon Amanda Lear. She likes Blood and Honey, I like Blood/Honey.” Sharon accompanies the new track with a joyously disco centred video directed by Henry Moonrod.
