HRVY has built up an impressive back catalogue of stellar pop hits throughout his career, but his latest I Wish I Could Hate You marks a distinctive new chapter. This indie-flavoured, 00s inspired new single is the first that he has written independently.
HRVY shares: “‘I Wish I Could Hate You’ is the first song I’ve ever released that I’ve written on my own. It’s a little nerve wracking, but also VERY exciting to see what my fans think. It’s a super summery song, with a catchy hook and more of an indie pop feel to my last releases!”
I Wish I Could Hate You sees the twenty-three year old’s soulful vocals come into the fold against smooth, dreamy percussion before channelling its indie-pop flavours in the mixed instrumentation of its chorus. HRVY sings “I wish I could hate you but I can’t right now / Somethin’ that I’ll never understand / Believin’ every word that’s comin’ out your mouth / Fallin’ for you wasn’t in the plan…” on the track’s infectious chorus packed with addictive pop hooks.
I Wish I Could Hate You is produced by Noah Terefe. It follows HRVY’s Steve Aoki collaboration Save Me and his EP Views from the 23rd Floor.
