Light Sleepers was one of the standouts from Soft Cell’s comeback LP Happiness Not Included. The electro act made up of Marc Almond and Dave Ball release a video for the single, their first video for the project since Pet Shop Boys collaboration Purple Zone. The British artists recruit Violet Chachki for the video, directed by Charlie Ann Max.
Light Sleepers sings of early morning risers in Los Angeles café, with Almond inspired to write the song when observing the mysterious souls up in the early hours of the morning. In the video for the track, Chachki embodies the spirit of a young Marc Almond with some avant-garde styling and arthouse style direction and lensing from Charlie Ann Max.
In May 2022, Happiness Not Included hit the album charts at #7 in the UK and #5 in Scotland. This marked their highest chart position since 1983’s The Art of Falling Apart.
