Norwegian broadcaster NRK have revealed the line-up for their national selection extravaganza Melodi Grand Prix. The 2023 edition of MGP features some of the Scandinavian nation’s best and brightest pop stars who are vying for the chance to follow in the footsteps (pawsteps?) of last year’s winner Subwoolfer. Among them are former MGP winners, rising scandipop sensations, and some of Norway’s premier entertainers. They will compete in semi-finals throughout January – with the lucky ones making it through to the grand final on the 2nd of February 2023.

Semi-Final 1 (14th of January 2023)
Eurovision fans will be delighted to see Ulrikke on the bill for semi-final one with the performer a firm fan favourite for the cancelled 2020 Eurovision Song Contest with her MGP winner Attention. Ulrikke will also be up against fellow Eurovision contestant JOWST who finished tenth place in 2010 with Grab the Moment. 1987 MGP winner Kate Gullbrandsen also features in this heat, with pop newcomers such as Italy’s Alessandra Mele also in the running.

Idol stars Bjørn Olav Edvardsen and Alejandro Fuentes – as well as pop talent JONE make up some of the high profile names for heat two. There is a real sense of variety in this semi-final with the retro Gatsby-inspired pop of Swingin’it to the Latin pop of rising talent Ella.

2021 Melodi Grand Prix favourite Atle Pettersen returns with a new track Masterpiece, whilst drag star Skrellex is set to deliver some uplifting high energy pop with Love Again. 2020 MGP star Akuvi returns, alongisde former MGP winner Stig van Eijk who represented his home nation in Jerusalem’s ESC in 1999.
