Bashar Murad was a hair’s width away from representing Iceland at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest with his impressive anthem Wild West. Whilst we were disappointed not to see Bashar at the contest, we are undeniably pleased that he has managed to establish himself as a pop force to be reckoned with thanks to the track and his impressive performance. Bashar moves on from the experience with a new single Stone.
The number, produced by Einar Stef, features songwriting credits for Bashar, Einar Stef, Sabreen and Bashar’s father, Said Murad. The musician shared prior to the track’s release: “STONE the song I’m releasing at midnight samples the most iconic track from the most iconic Palestinian band from the 80s, SABREEN. The group was founded by my dad, Said Murad.”
Delivering lyrics of true poignancy, Bashar sings: “I’ve got a stone, Could build us a home, To weather us through the hard thunder and storms, I’ve got a stone, Could build you a throne, So you’d be right where you always belonged…” against striking melodies from producer Einar Stef.
Bashar headlines his first solo show in Rekjavik on May 18th. You can get tickets here.
