Sophie Ellis-Bextor makes a glorious return to the world of dance and disco pop with the delicious new number Freedom of the Night. The first single from the singer’s upcoming as yet unannounced new studio album following last year’s Japan-influenced album Hana – sees her co-write with Duck Blackwell, Richard ‘Biff’ Stannard, and Shura.
On embracing her return to disco, Sophie notes: “I have always been someone that needs music to help me recalibrate and ‘Freedom of the Night’ is all about that feeling. Music as a form of release and a little bit of hedonism. I’ve always needed that energy in my life, and I know I’m not alone. As the song says, sometimes you need to give in to what you want.”
Sophie sounds incredible atop production from Duck Blackwell, David Wrench, Chris Greatti, Richard Jones and Richard ‘Biff’ Stannard – and we are not going to lie, this is the sound we have been waiting to hear from Sophie for a very long time. The star has left us hungry for 100% pure dance and pop since her vastly underrated 2011 album Make a Scene.
