Ace of Base were a force to be reckoned with in the nineties and early noughties, with the iconic Swedish four piece delivering hits such as All That She Wants, The Sign and Beautiful Life. The highs and lows of the band’s journey are chronicled in new three part documentary Ace of Base: All That She Wants which is streaming now on Viaplay via Amazon Prime Video. Culture Fix had the pleasure of chatting to Jenny Berggren of the band, who delved into the process of working on the documentary, the pitfalls of fame, and the freedom of her solo career.
The documentary shines as a comprehensive look at the band’s legacy – exploring their rise from Gothenburg to global stardom, the complex relationships within the four-piece, and challenges along the way (including Jenny facing a traumatic attack and Ulf’s past involvement in the Swedish far-right coming to light).
In our conversation, Jenny opens up about what it was like revisiting those moments, from the euphoria of early success to the struggles with fame. We explore why now was the right time to tell this story, her reflections on Swedish critics, and the band’s relationship with legendary producer Clive Davis. She also shares her experiences stepping out on her own with her solo work – including upcoming single Lion’s Den – and using her faith as a guiding force.
