In typical Lady Gaga fashion, the latest single Abracadabra was dropped in style during a commercial break at the 67th Grammy Awards last night. The single is the third taste of the upcoming album Mayhem, following the successes of Die With a Smile and Disease, and it is safe to say the LG7 era marks a return to the very best of Gaga.
In the chorus, Gaga sings about love and death in a fashion reminiscent of her previous hit Bad Romance:
“Abracadabra, amor-oo-na-na
Abracadabra, morta-ooh-ga-ga
Abracadabra, abra-oo-na-na
In her tongue, she said, ‘Death or love tonight.'”
Gaga contrasts her previous single Disease, which spoke of inner torment and restriction, explaining that Abracadabra explores themes of self-exploration, freedom, and perseverance.
The accompanying music video for Abracadabra was directed by Gaga herself alongside Parris Goebel and Bethany Vargas, harking back to earlier cinematic masterpieces such as Judas and Alejandro. In teaser interviews for Mayhem, Gaga has told fans to continue expecting the unexpected, as she transcends different genres while maintaining a “dark” vibe with strong dance beats throughout. With Abracadabra, Gaga has only fueled our excitement for Mayhem, delivering fashion, music, and visuals reminiscent of The Fame Monster and Born This Way.
As an incredibly versatile and unpredictable artist, fans never know what to expect from Mother Monster—but all signs so far suggest LG7 will be an absolute classic, and we are beyond excited to hear the rest!
Mayhem arrives March 7th. Connect with Culture Fix on X, Blue Sky, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and Threads.
