Ukrainian musical talent Max Barskih has continued to navigate the worlds of both English language and Ukrainian language pop music. His latest single Stomach Butterflies sees him navigate the former, with the powerful number seeing him collaborate with co-producer Anton Kukri. Max writes the impressive number. The number is accompanied by a poignant music video from Alan Badoev.
Alan Badoev shares: “In Max’s new music video, every detail reflects modern Ukraine: our beautiful youth, their courage and sincerity, the interior from the progressive brand Dizza, a carpet with an original design by artist Masha Reva – this is what we are proud of and what we show to the world. This is our future.”
Prior to the filming of the video, Max and the cast took part in a number of acting workshops. Max reflects: “When you gather unfamiliar people on a filming set, where real ‘shared chemistry’ is to arise, it is important to give everyone a chance to feel each other. That’s why we sat together on one carpet, carefully observing ourselves and each other. We touched one another. And even took off our clothes. Everything happened like group therapy, after which we became closer, like one whole. It was a true exchange of energy, and this moment is what we filmed in the music video. I also want to remind you that we should take care of the mental health of our people — we are not broken, but very fragile,”
Max shared on social media: “I’m inspired by our people. The greatest strength of Ukrainians is our ability to live—no matter what. War hasn’t broken that spirit. Even under constant attacks, through pain and loss, our people keep moving forward, chasing their dreams, loving, building their future. And I want the world to see that strength.”
He continues: “We’re sending out five video messages from young Ukrainians—filled with faith, courage, and hope. We are Ukraine! My team and I are kicking off a new creative chapter with an audiovisual performance featuring young men and women from all across Ukraine. Shot on a VHS camera, these frames capture the raw honesty of people who have stayed true to their homeland despite the war. Some survived occupation, some lost loved ones, and some had to leave their hometowns. But every single one of them is a living manifesto of resilience, life, and the fight for Ukraine.”
The track is thought to be the first single from Max’s upcoming English studio album. Stream the video for Stomach Butterflies above.
