It’s been a slow week for us in terms of reviews and coverage – blame Eurovision and a generally dull week in the cinematic calendar – but we recently uncovered this first look at ABC’s upcoming drama, Oil. We’re a bit late to the party on this one (the video has been kicking about for a couple of weeks) but since we missed it initially, you might have too.
The official synopsis tells us: “Billy and Cody Lefever dream of a new life and move to “The Bakken” in North Dakota, booming after the biggest oil discovery in American history. They’re soon pitted against a ruthless tycoon who forces them to put everything on the line, including their marriage.”
Whilst thematically it seems similar to TNT’s Dallas reboot, Oil looks like it’s adding enough originality into the mix to keep things fresh. This looks like a grubbier, far more down and dirty look at the oil industry than the soapy gloss of Dallas. Plus, a cast headed by screen icon Don Johnson (in a somewhat J.R.-ish role) and the easy on the eye Chace Crawford is certainly going to make this one a must watch.
Check out the extended trailer below. Oil’s thirteen episode run starts “Sundays 9|8c this Fall,” as a British site we understand about two words of that.
