Sir Ian McKellen and director Bill Condon re-team for Mr. Holmes – their first collaboration since 1998’s outstanding Gods and Monsters. The project puts an intriguing spin on the Sherlock Holmes mythos by focussing on the legendary detective’s later years.
Set in 1947, Mr. Holmes follows the sleuth living his retirement out in a remote Sussex farmhouse. Growing increasingly frustrated with his misrepresentation in fictional works, Holmes diverts his attention by returning to one unsolved final case – the very one which led to his retirement thirty years prior.
The project went down relatively well at its Berlin Film Festival premiere back in February and is slated for a UK release on the 19th of June. Catch the latest trailer below.
