This year is a wonderful time to be an Abel Ferrara fan with the director releasing two original features: Welcome to New York (which we previously reviewed at EIFF) and the upcoming Pasolini.
The latter sees the director re-team with regular collaborator Willem Dafoe (the pair previously worked on New Rose Hotel, Go Go Tales and 4:44 The Last Day on Earth) for a biopic tackling the final days in the life of legendary Italian filmmaker Pier Paolo Pasolini (Salo, or the 120 Days of Sodom).
Pasolini’s life was an eventful one and it is likely that Ferrara will delve into the director’s ties with the Italian Communist Party, the extremely divisive subject matter of his works, and ultimately his murder in 1975.
Pasolini is set for release later this year.
